I have a complicated relationship with book series. I love it when the story just continues and I have more to read about characters and worlds I love, but I find it difficult to actually finish them. I believe there are only three finished series on my Read shelf and from over a year ago! It’s just… new series are getting released and I find myself starting a new one everytime.
This year one of my reading goals is to actually catch up or finish some of the series that I have already started. No promises on not starting new ones, considering my copy for All the Stars and Teeth arrived recently and I’m dying to read it; but, I actually wanted to share with you some of the series I plan on reading and would like to know your opinions on some of them!
Villains by V.E. Schwab
Vicious has been on my TBR for YEARS and I have yet to even get the book, now the sequel was released and there’s gonna be a third book? I need to get my ass on gear and get reading. I’ve seen so many people talking about these books and I wanna join in the buzz!
The Shadow and Bone Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo
Oh yes. The Grisha Trilogy. Since I loved the Six of Crows duology, and this series was the start of that world… I just have to. However, the reviews (or more like rants) about this series already have my expectations on the low side. Most people emphasize the quality jump in Bardugo’s writing from this series to Six of Crows, but I’ve come to love her style and would like to know what it was like at the beginning. I also want to know why everyone hates Mal and why they ship Zoya and Nikolai so much, lol. I really hope to finish this series BEFORE the Netflix adaption is released.
The Wolves of Mercy Falls by Maggie Stiefvater
This is another case in which I want to see the author’s style on a previous work. I fell in love with Maggie’s prose on The Raven Cycle, but it killed my brain in All the Crooked Saints. I want to see and compare the way her writing style has evolved with experience and time. Unfortunately, not many people discuss this series and I don’t always trust reviews because they muddle with my expectations and that’s not always good.
Simon Snow by Rainbow Rowell
I actually did not have any interest on this series until I read Fangirl last year. I loved Cath and obviously, in my mind, she wrote these books. That is canon. I also saw people cry on Twitter about Wayward Son, and before I knew it I impulse bought Carry On from my local library last year. I was surprised it was even there, along with a hard copy of Wayward Son. New releases don’t usually come that fast to my country. Fate? I would like to say yes.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan
Boy is this one of the big ones. I never watched the movie but a friend of mine LOVES this series so much she keeps telling me to read it, and I’ve heard such great things about it that it required minimal effort for me to decide I wanted to read it. I want to make my way through the original series and if my interest remains, maybe make my way to the following books. The Lightning Thief is sitting on my shelf since last year, I just have to pick it up. Eventually, ha.
Everless by Sara Holland
This duology has been on my TBR for a while now, but I received an arc for Holland’s Havenfall and really liked it. I’ve seen good comments about her debut novel and sequel, hopefully I will get my hands on a copy and finally read it!
The Folf of the Air by Holly Black
The hype around this trilogy is incredible and my Twitter timeline has seen more than one live tweet of The Cruel Prince to peak my interest. The Cruel Prince has probably been on my TBR since it was released but if I don’t get the book, I just forget and never read anything. Big Problem. With the third book out and many people STILL talking about The Queen of Nothing, my attention has been caught again and I’ve moved this trilogy to my “priority” list, so to speak.
Renegades by Marissa Meyer
The list could not be complete with this trilogy. I loved Marissa’s characters in The Lunar Chronicles, and when I read the summary for this series I knew I was sold. I, unfortunately, was spoiled on a rather important detail. But oh well, I’ve never let a spoiler ruin a book for me and Twitter will not win. I bought Renegades on sale last year, I believe it was on Kindle for like $2.99? At the time, I said, in my eloquent French “Puta qué oferton!” lol.
Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
This duology (is it a duology?) it’s the opposite and the same as The Grisha Trilogy and The Wolves of Mercy Falls. Opposite because when I read the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy, I did not like it very much. Not because of the plot or writing style, but the way she wrote the romance. And it is the same because I want to see how her style has changed since then and see if I enjoy the romance this time around.
Arc of a Scythe by Neal Shusterman
I was so excited when the first book was announced, the summary really caught my interest and the cover was so enticing. I’ve had this book on my shelf for about three years! And I have not pick it up because I am an idiot 😦 But now that the trilogy is finished, I won’t have to wait for a year until the next book, hurrah!
Don’t think this are all the series I want to read, my TBR has many others but I am just listing the top ten I want to read the most and that I already have a book on my physical or Kindle shelf. If you’ve read any of these, your thoughts (and recommendations) are welcome!
What about you? What series is out there that you really wanna read but haven’t had the chance?
