#5OnMyTBR it’s a bookish meme hosted by E. @LocalBeeHunter’sNook and you can learn more about it here. It occurs every Monday when we post about 5 books on our TBR. Come share with us your a piece of your ever increasing TBR 💕
This week out prompt is Sirens (or other water creatures)!
The Mermaid by Christina Henry
I haven’t read any book by Christina Henry but I understand that they are dark retellings of famous fairytales. I have Lost Boy, which is a Peter Pan retelling, which I’m excited to read. But I have a soft spot for The Little Mermaid, and I’ve wanted to read this one for a while.
Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller
Someone make me buy this book, please. I’ve had it on my shopping cart for MONTHS while thinking “I’ll buy it on my next shopping spree” but I keep replacing it for a different book. I’ve been wanting to read it for so long, and it’s not a book that people comment about so I have zero idea on what happens on this book at all, so I don’t really know where the sirens or mermaids come into play.
The Surface Breaks by Louise O’Neill
So this is one is supposed to be more of a retelling than Henry’s The Mermaid. Also with a feminist turn. Apparently it’s falls more on the Disney version than the original tale, and The Little Mermaid is my favorite princess (and one of my favorite movies).
A Song Below Water by Bethany C. Morrow
This is a new release, I remember seeing it all over Twitter and thought it looked Mermaid-ish? But for some reason my brain said “No, it just looks like it is” and I actually convinced myself I had read the synopsis and it was NOT about mermaids. But then I read it a different day and realized IT WAS. It was not able to preorder it, so now I’m waiting for my big ass pile of July preorders to lower so I can buy it.
To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo
I think I’ve mentioned this book before, but at least this is one that is already sitting in my shelf! Murdering sirens, an enemies to lovers romance, hopefully I will be able to pick it up soon to finally scratch the itch to read this!
Can’t believe it was actually hard for me to find books for this prompt on my TBR? I really need some recs, I’ll be going through other posts today to check them out!
Have you read any of these books? What did you think about them?
