[Book Tag] The New Releases Book Tag

Hallo everyone!

I’ve been wanting to do a book tag for a while but I wasn’t seeing any that caught my attention. But then Tree from Words About Words posted this tag and I loved it! Despite my reading slump, I keep preordering and buying new releases that catch my interest whenever I find them. So far, I have preorders going all the way to July, I don’t think I have any for the second part of the year only because I have not actively looked for them.

If you want to read the original post by Allonsythornraxx, you can find it here.

For this tag, I will mention releases from both 2021 and 2022 because it’s just the beginning of the year!

A new release you’ve already read

Despite my best attempts, I don’t think I was able to read many 2021 releases. But since I discovered that I enjoy fairytale retellings quite a bit, I did read some of those!

My second attempt at reading Alix E. Harrow: A Spindle Splintered went amazing. I was excited about this one because I’ve discovered that I enjoy fairy tale retellings a lot, and this was a story of (in my opinion) the most boring princess so far. To those who bought the physical copy, were you also surprised at how short it is, or am I the only that didn’t see the length when placing the order? I was shocked when I first got it, I thought it was a misprint!

My favorite princess could not be out of the list, so I read What Once Was Mine by Liz Braswell. I’ve wanted to start the books on this series for a while now, and I’m happy I started with this one!

And what is the world without some villains? City of Villains by Estelle Laure also got me excited with their cast of characters.

A new release that’s already come out but you haven’t read yet

Uhm, the list might be long but I will mention a couple!

I’ve been so out of it this year that I haven’t read some very anticipated reads! I was waiting for Perfect on Paper for quite a while, but I haven’t been able to pick it up yet. I Think I Love You got delayed and was released this year, been waiting for it for A WHILE. And I want to close Holland’s duology so bad, I want to know what happens!

Hopefully, this will be taken care of early this year.

A new release you just found out about

So I didn’t put much attention to this year’s releases until the last couple of months of 2021… but I still manage to find a LOT of things to be excited about and started preordering like crazy.

First of all, A Magic Steeped in Poison, I even tried to get an arc through Netgalley but got denied. While browsing Amazon I also found Only a Monster and Hotel Magnifique, which caught my attention immediately and I had to preorder them right away.

A new release you’re excited about from one of your favorite authors

Ok, so. I love Emma Lord since her debut with Tweet Cute, one of my favorite books ever. And when I found out she had a new book coming I was freaking excited! And the story seems amazing as always, unfortunately, I might have to pass on this one for a while since my budget for the start of the year is a little sad. Got my mom a new bed, a new phone recently, and the first monthly payments right after Christmas and New Year’s are sure to kick my butt.

I’m also looking forward to Heartstopper Vol. 4 by Alice Oseman! It’s been a while since I paused reading the updated and decided to wait for the physical copies, but I left off somewhere in the chapters included in this volume so I am happy to read more about Nick and Charlie! So sad it was pushed back though, I was looking forward to starting the year with it.

If Leigh Bardugo announces that Ninth House’s sequel is coming out in 2022, consider it here as well.

A new release you’re excited about from a new author to you

This might be known more by those that watch anime or read manga, or watch k-dramas, don’t know if a lot of the book community know about it. It is not technically a new release, since it has been out in its original language for a while but the English translation is getting released and I’m excited to read it. It’s Heaven’s Official Blessing by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu. If I’m not mistaken, it has a live-action drama, a manhwa, and an anime adaption that’s available on Netflix. I’ve only watched the anime, but I loved the characters and what we got from the story. I’m sure the book will expand on the character’s story and I’m here for it!

Also looking forward to Horror Hotel, I’ve wanted to try the horror genre for a while and the story of this book caught my attention!

A new relase you have no interest in

I don’t keep… mental notes on which releases I’m not interested in, I just leave them behind me lmao. So I don’t have anything to mention for this prompt.

A new release you want to pick up soon

These books arrived recently due to a delay with my international carrier, but they are also highly anticipated reads for me. I read the sneak peek for Gilded and it, obviously, made me more excited about it. Can’t wait to read it. I’ve also read amazing things about Lore Olympus and I don’t think I’ve read a Hades & Persephone story, so I’m looking forward to it!

A new release that hasn’t come out yet but you can’t wait to read

This one doesn’t have a cover yet, but it is Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku Vol. 6. I love this series with the passion of a thousand suns and I believe this is the last volume, my tear ducts, and throat are not ready for how much I’m gonna cry and scream when this manga comes to an end. It’s so hard to find the last chapters online that I’m going completely blind for this volume and I am both excited and terrified.

A new release with an amazing cover

Oh, I love these covers so much! These are my favorites for recent and coming releases.

A favorite new release you’ve read so far this year

When I tell you that I screamed when I read the end of this book… you are not imagining how bad it was. I am planning on posting a review soon but I’ll let you know that I loved it and I can’t believe that we have to wait for the last book. The cliffhanger was, although predictable, still shocking because just… WHY, WHY, WHY? Naomi Novik has to give me ANSWERS on the next book or I will combust.

If you got this far, then you can consider yourself tagged, go ahead and share your anticipated new releases and the ones you liked this past year. I’m still looking for more books for the second half of 2022, if you have any recommendation don’t hesitate to leave them in the comments!
